Dear parents of students in 6th-8th grades,

Exciting news – we are heading to the Charleston Museum on a field study trip on October 15!

We are studying how scientists use rock layers and fossils to make inferences and draw conclusions about the history of creation. Students will take a “Fossil Frenzy class” and tour an exhibit about fossils to learn more about how fossils are formed, what scientists currently believe about what fossils tell us, and the methods they have used to reach those conclusions. This experience also includes a day in which the Charleston Museum will come to us for a “Geology Rocks!” class. During this time, students will conduct various tests in order to identify rocks and minerals!

Field Study Date: 10/15/24

Address: The Charleston Museum – 360 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29403

Itinerary: We will leave CBA at 8:30am and arrive back to CBA at 12:00pm.  We will arrive prior to our “Fossil Frenzy class” from 9:30 -10:30, tour the exhibit, and then eat lunch at a nearby park while observing the rocks and minerals around us and their various uses.

Cost: $12.00/student

Transportation: Chaperones’ personal vehicles and the CBA bus.

Students should:

  • Bring their lunch to enjoy outside at a nearby park. *Please do not order from Food for Thought for this day.
