Dear parents of 3rd grade students,
Your child’s class is going on a field trip! This is an excellent chance to further your child’s learning outside of the classroom.
The purpose of this field trip is to grow in knowledge of Native Americans and Colonial times through hands-on activities and artifact exposure.
This relates to the third-grade curriculum by supporting the second and third unit. Students will gain a better understanding of life for the Native Americans in our area and life for the Colonial settlers. The children will have TWO one-hour-long sessions.
The first session is about how people lived in the colonies and how they made candles. The students will then get to make their own candles. The second session is about Native Americans of South Carolina. The students will get to learn how Native Americans used their natural resources and lived off of the land. They will then get to make their own corn husk doll. After the sessions, we will eat lunch and then explore the museums, trails, and other exhibits.
Students should bring the following: a water bottle, jacket, bug spray, sunscreen, and a name tag.
Inspiring world changers together,
