Should your child’s education be different from your education? A Message from Dr. Johnson

Believe it or not, as parents, we do many things in life because that is the way our parents did it. From child-rearing, to eating habits, to the sport teams we cheer for (Go Tigers!) and what kind of pets we like or dislike. This often is true in the K12 education we choose for our children. Traditional= safe, neutral, right?... and no one wants to risk messing up their child’s education. In our upcoming parent chats, I will share our curricular vision.   Hear specifically about first grade and the way we approach reading here.  One of our parents has given [...]

Godly Trait of the Month

Each month we talk to students about a Godly trait. We reinforce the idea via scripture and with a song. Godly trait of the month for August and September: Obedience Definition: Doing what I am asked to do with a good attitude. Memory Verse: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3 We explain to students some practical ways they can work on obedience: [...]

Mask requirement for K through 5 students + additional protocols

The Charleston Bilingual Academy Task Force has made the decision, at this time, that all students in kindergarten through 5th grade at Charleston Bilingual Academy should wear a mask or face shield at school. Through our ongoing discussions with area doctors and our Board, we believe this is one additional step we must take to slow or stop the spread of COVID during this peak time of transmission. We are regularly meeting with our task force to assess our protocols, and we strongly believe masks or face shields are an additional layer of protection for our students and our [...]

Pizza Friday

On the first Friday of every month, PTO members deliver pizzas to our students from kindergarten and up. Last year the PTO rolled out this program as a fundraiser for PTO programs, and it was a big hit for students and families. The first of our Pizza Friday events is Friday, September 3. We ask parents to Venmo the school (@Charlestonbilingualacademy) to cover the cost of the pizza for your student(s). You can pay  $5 each month per student or for the entire school year, which is $45 per student. Students should still bring their water bottle and a snack to [...]

Update to COVID protocol (Aug 18, 2021)

The CBA COVID task force continues to meet weekly to assess the pandemic. The task force encourages us to increase our efforts to limit transmission while Charleston-area numbers are spiking. In addition to the multi-layered approach to protecting our children, CBA is now: Strongly recommending that children wear a mask/shield when they are not socially distanced indoors Requiring teachers to wear masks/shields when they are not socially distanced indoors Requiring school visitors (including parents) to wear masks/shields if they enter the building The task force continues to consider every option in order to limit disease transmission and maximize time in school. Drop Off Locations

The safety of our students is a top priority for the team at CBA. To that end, we want to make sure the drop off and pick up procedures are clear, and families are alert during this period of the morning and afternoon. You will find a map of the CBA campus below. There are markers on the map to indicate where students should be dropped off and picked up.  All drivers coming onto the CBA campus and Friendship Baptist Church should enter from Lackawanna Blvd and exit onto Princeton Street.
