Dear CBA parents, I write this email with a full heart! God started this school 6.5 years ago in December 2014. We had 7 kids sign up, some of whom are pictured above in CBA's first Kindergarten class. We hired 3 teachers who volunteered the first month so we could have income to pay them the next month. I remember taking every odd job after hours (washing windows, taking real estate pictures, landscaping, renting our home on AirBnB…). I remember those first tours as we walked around the campus with a rusted swing set and carpeted classrooms from the 1950s. I [...]
Thanks to Sarah Monk and the SPAWAR team, our Elementary students enjoyed taking part in Friday Robotics classes this year! You can view all photos in this album; please do not share the full album to social media.
CBA's 3rd and 4th grade class is thankful to the DNR ACE Basin Estuarine Research Team and Water Mission for sharing their knowledge of natural resources and wildlife with them! The class recently visited the ACE Basin Estuarine Research Center on James Island as part of their project-based learning unit on endangered species, and friends from Water Mission also visited the class this spring.
Dear parents, We are studying through the Bible for 3 years (Gospel Project). This week, we will be learning about the temple of God. The temple in the Old Testament demonstrated how God wants to be with His people. In fact, He said His name is Emmanuel which means “God with us.” In the New Testament, Paul said our bodies are temples, and that the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us through repentance and belief in Jesus. This Wednesday, as we talk about the temple in Chapel and God’s desire to dwell within us, we will use this as an [...]
Dear CBA Community, Summer break is nearly here. Whoohoo! God has been amazingly good to us this past year. The school as a whole missed less days this past year than any of the prior years, when hurricanes kept interrupting our classes. Many of us are dreaming about vacations, BBQ, and a slower pace this summer. Am I right? But the villain of the season is summer slide. "Summer slide" (or learning loss) is the concept that students regress during gaps in learning. We see a slide in students’ language fluency when they return after the two weeks of Christmas break. [...]
Wondering what it's like to be an elementary student @ CBA this month?? Birds, Pollinators, Endangered Species... OH MY! CBA first graders are learning about God's beautiful purposes for birds, 2nd graders are exploring God's gift of pollinators, and 3rd and 4th graders are learning about endangered species all over the world, including in Charleston. We challenge you to ask an elementary student about God's purposes with for all of these, and think you will be amazed by what our students can teach us!! EARTH DAY @ CBA Elementary students celebrated Earth Day at CBA learning how to be [...]
The end of the '20-21 school year is near! Please mark these important dates on your calendar. Kindergarten families, please stay tuned for class-specific updates about end-of-the-year activities. Gracias!
This month, in addition to our verse of the month, CBA students are learning that in the Old Testament, God gave the prophets Elijah and Elisha power to heal diseases and raise the dead. Jesus is greater than the prophets. Jesus not only healed the sick and raised the dead, He also defeated sin and death once and for all when He died on the cross and rose again. Jesus will return one day and eliminate sickness and suffering forever. From our study outlined in the Gospel Project, our big picture question is: Why did God create people? Answer: God created people [...]
