At Charleston Bilingual Academy, Valentine’s Day is not just about cards and candy—it’s an opportunity to reflect on love, friendship, and compassion. Across the school, students celebrated in unique ways that reflect the heart of CBA’s mission.

Early Childhood (EC): Día del Amor y la Amistad
In Early Childhood, students learned about Día del Amor y la Amistad (Day of Love & Friendship), a celebration in many Spanish-speaking countries that highlights the importance of friendship and God’s love. Teachers taught that we have a friend in Jesus, how to be a good friend to others, and the story of Saint Valentine, a man who loved God and courageously helped others.
Circle times were filled with conversations about how Jesus is the best friend we could ever have and how to be kind and caring friends to one another. The children sang songs like “Yo tengo un amigo que me ama” (I Have a Friend Who Loves Me) and enjoyed class parties to celebrate love and friendship together.

Elementary & Middle School: A Day of Compassion
For Elementary and Middle School students, Valentine’s Day served as CBA Community Compassion Day, where students were challenged to be a blessing to others in the community. Each grade chose a group or individual to honor and found creative ways to share encouragement and gratitude:
  • Grade 1:
    • Class 1B: Thanked their garbage collector
    • Class 1A: Honored CBA office staff
  • Grade 2: Blessed presbytery staff
  • Grade 3: Encouraged teachers at Dunston Elementary, where they serve monthly
  • Grade 4: Thanked Mr. Whipper & their neighborhood “Soccer Ball Neighbor”
  • Grade 5: Delivered gratitude to Local role-model for serving refugees
  • Grades 6-8: Expressed appreciation to the North Charleston Police Department

By focusing on compassion, students had the chance to practice being the hands and feet of Jesus—learning what it means to serve others and show His love in tangible ways.

From Día del Amor y la Amistad in Early Childhood to Community Compassion Day in Elementary and Middle School, Valentine’s Day at CBA was filled with joy, kindness, and celebration as we continue to live out our theme for this year: Be a Blessing.
