Dear Parents,

The CBA Middle School adventure begins in grade 5, which is earlier than some schools!

Grades 5 – 8 are a time when students are still excited about learning but are now ready to be challenged with increased individual responsibility. Students are learning to go deeper in their thinking as they evaluate, analyze, and create. They want to know ‘why’, are eager to learn the ‘behind-the-scenes’ facts, and enjoy showing off their knowledge. They grapple with accepting the need to learn from others even as they begin to take on more responsibility for their own learning.

From rock layers to worm farms, from plants to water conservation, from China to the Middle East, from seeking how to welcome families each morning to considering how to welcome families from afar, this has been an exciting year packed full of investigation, research, writing informative, narrative, and persuasive compositions, debating, discussing, designing and imagining. They are delving deeper into research and writing, and are welcoming guest speakers into the classroom as they increase their understanding of the world around them and seek how to become agents of change. Partnering with Lutheran Services and Water Mission, students learned to do real work for real needs for real people.

Parents and grandparents of students in grades 1 – 6 are invited to join us for our first CBA Celebration of Learning on Monday, May 22. We will gather in the FBC sanctuary at 1:00pm to hear each grade share a small glimpse into their learning. Come ready to ask lots of questions, and then take a walk through the classrooms as students share their stories of learning with you!

Inspiring world changers together,

Principal Marilyn Lane
