There is a major need for families to foster and adopt children in our state right now.

In the last report from the Department of Social Services in July 2022, there were more than 237 children in foster care in Charleston County alone. In Berkeley County, there were 150, and in Dorchester County, there were 56. There simply aren’t enough foster homes for all of these children.

Currently, the need (whether fostering or adopting) is for families who want to be a blessing to children between the ages of 7-17, and/or larger sibling groups of 3 or more, according to Heartfelt Calling

Grace City Church also offers a Foster & Adoption Resource Center.

We hope you will consider opening your home and heart to help these vulnerable children in our community. You can also support families who foster children. This may be as simple as dropping off meals or laundry detergent for foster families or taking a child or two for a playdate to give foster parents a free moment.

The Department of Social Services reports these are the most needed items for foster families:

  • Diapers (all sizes)
  • Wal-mart gift cards ($10 increments)
  • Pull Ups (all sizes)
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby bibs
  • Baby bottles
  • Plastic mattress covers (twin size)
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Soap, washcloths, and towels
  • Deodorant and lotion
  • Combs and hairbrushes
  • Book bags, duffel bags, suitcases, and diaper bags
  • Coloring books with crayons and markers
  • Sports bras (small, medium, large)
