Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at CBA 2023

As the only bilingual school in SC, with the most diverse student population (according to the former Chief of Police of North Charleston and now mayoral candidate Reggie Burgess), it’s our joy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) in this part of the year. Our observance this year will consist of the following:

Weeks 1 & 2: Learn through ClassDojo posts about the countries (and one associated state) of our staff and some of our CBA families of Hispanic origin. We have staff and families from (in alphabetical order) Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela. There will be ideas from recipes or customs from these countries for you to use at home.

Week 3: We will be learning about the legacy left to us by prominent Hispanics. Among them, you will find Freedom Fighters, Poets, and others. We are getting together a presentation that we use in the form of a gallery for our students to see and learn from. We are asking families who would like to contribute to this gallery to follow the link and contribute directly to the presentation (in progress) or email Maestra Margarita with the information (and photos if you have them) at mhart@charlestonbilingualacademy.org and she can do the write-up and formatting for you.

Also Week 3 and Week 4: There will be readings of poetry in Spanish in classrooms.

Elementary and Middle School will get to hear about Hispanics who did not give up on Friday Failure days.
