Dear parents and guardians,

We hope you are settling well into the new year. We (the entire Language on Mission team) wanted to reach out today with some important news: Language on Mission is closing this Spring.

Some of you are very familiar with Language on Mission (LOM), CBA’s online language learning program, and some may not know much about it. LOM was started in the Spring of 2020 when COVID-19 hit, and everyone had to be quarantined. It was a way to ensure that CBA students continued to receive Christ-centered language instruction, even from home. Margarita Hart was the founding director. Later, LOM was led by Pam Davis and, most recently, Christian Cruz (working remotely from Guatemala).

This big announcement comes with many emotions for our team, but we are so grateful to have been a part of hundreds of students’ language journeys and God’s bigger story. We are continuing to try to walk in His story, and at this time, we are shifting our focus away from this online platform and onto supporting the physical school of CBA, which is continuing to grow by God’s grace.

It’s hard to believe this small, stop-gap program would grow to provide thousands of hours of classes over almost 5 years. We are so blessed that God used our teachers to reach students who would not otherwise have access to Christ-centered language immersion instruction, including some living on other continents!

We know that many of you (parents and children alike) have participated in or engaged in some way with LOM over the past five years, and we are so thankful! Your love for the Lord and language learning fueled our efforts and is a lasting encouragement.

We give God the glory for all He has done over these years: the sweet connections between teachers and students, the reminders of His great love in each class, and our students’ incredible language progress.

Although LOM will no longer provide language classes, we sincerely hope you and/or your children continue pursuing language learning outside of regular CBA hours. Here are a couple of options that we recommend:

  • CBA provides in-person tutoring options after school. To get started, please email abrooks@charlestonbilingualacademy.org.
  • During the summer, some CBA teachers are available for in-person or online tutoring. Be on the lookout for an announcement closer to summer with more details.
  • Reach out to Christian Cruz (most recent LOM director) at christian@languageonmission.org to get more details about his vision for a revamped version of the program in the future.

We understand that this change brings a mix of emotions, and our hearts are both heavy and hopeful. We genuinely care about you and would love to hear your thoughts or any questions you might have. Please don’t hesitate to reply to this email or contact support@languageonmission.org. Your voice matters to us.

In Christ,

The LOM team
