An important aspect of project-based learning (PBL) is to do real work for a real need for real people. Recently, grades 5 and 6 were able to do just that! Students are asking the question, “How can we welcome refugees and immigrants well to Charleston?” As they research and learn about the many various countries around the world from which many immigrants are coming to the Charleston area, they are partnering with Lutheran Services to assist in welcoming families. Recently, the students were able to work alongside Lutheran Services to prepare a home for a new family. The students cleaned, moved supplies, and met the family. The students were able to speak with the family in Spanish, putting them at ease as they gave them a warm and friendly welcome to our country.  Take a look at what Lutheran Services had to say.
