CBA Permission Slip – Grades 6&7 Field Trip to Clean Up Filbin Creek – 1/12/24

Dear parents of 6th and 7th grade students,

Your child’s class is going on a field trip! This is an excellent chance to further your child’s learning outside of the classroom.

The clean-up of Filbin Creek is one of the cornerstones of our service projects in science this year, as we strive to learn about how to solve real-world problems affecting our community’s wetland ecosystems. We plan to join Charleston Waterkeeper in order to clean up any trash polluting the creek, as well as observe and plan how to address any lack of spartina grass that should grow in this creek.

Students will eat lunch at CBA after the clean-up.

Please make sure your child dresses in closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Jeans are allowed.

***There are 2 forms to complete for this field trip. Please read the details below carefully.***

This event is a Charleston Waterkeeper volunteer activity; you can read more about them here.  If you consent for your child to participate as a clean-up volunteer, you will need to:

1) Fill out the Waterkeeper waiver FIRST, using this link. Once you enter your child’s contact information, it will take you to the page that has the waiver for Waterkeeper. 

2) Once you complete the Waterkeeper waiver, please take a SCREENSHOT or print out the confirmation page saying you completed the waiver. (It will say “Thank you for signing our volunteer waiver.”)

3) Next, complete the CBA field trip permission slip below which has a field to enter the screenshot you took of the Waterkeeper waiver.

9:50 – Leave CBA on the bus with packed lunch
10:00 – Arrive at Hendricks Park at Filbin Creek and begin monthly Adopt-A-Park cleanup with Charleston Waterkeeper
12:00 – Depart Hendricks Park at Filbin Creek for CBA
12:05 – Arrive at CBA
12:10-12:30 – Eat packed lunch at school
