We know every little bit helps when it comes to investing in your child’s education — and here’s a tip you might not have heard.

Did you know? 

  1. Effective Jan 1, 2026, South Carolina families can now use 529 funds for more K–12 expenses, including:
  • Tuition for private, public, or religious schools
  • Books, curriculum, tutoring, online learning, standardized test fees, dual-enrollment courses, and educational therapies
  • Annual K–12 withdrawal limit increases to $20,000 per student (This is an $10,000 increase from the 2025 withdrawal limit.)
  1. Effective for the 2026 Tax Year the Big Beautiful Bill Tax Benefits include: 
  • $1,700 federal tax credit for donations to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) supporting K–12 tuition
  • $1,000 deduction (single) / $2,000 (married) for charitable donations for non-itemizers

Note: Some benefits depend on South Carolina opting into the programs.
