You may have noticed that some of our teachers are donning beuatiful clothing from their home countries. This is in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month and we invite you to join in the celebration! Please visit our hallway gallery on Main Campus or see it here. Our gallery showcases the Hispanic Heritage of the US and some contributions by Hispanic Americans. For instance, did you know that NHHM was signed into law by President Reagan? It started as National Hispanic Heritage Week, signed into law by President Johnson. If you wonder why this celebration is from September 15 through October 15, this is because on September 15 five countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua declared independence from Spain in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21 respectively. So this month is of special significance to our fellow Americans whose ancestry is from these countries, and also to many of our teachers who immigrated from these countries.
