Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of those from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. National Hispanic Heritage Month was signed into law by President Reagan after it had been expanded from National Hispanic Heritage Week (signed into law by President Johnson). September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the commemoration because it is the anniversary of independence of five countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, who declared independence from Spain in 1821.

2nd Annual Mighty Oak Art Contest
|
|
It’s time for the second annual CBA Mighty Oaks drawing contest! The mascot for Charleston Bilingual Academy is the Mighty Oak. Why an oak tree? As we look outside, the oak trees of Charleston remind us of why we do what we do. Their branches spread far and wide, bearing fruit, serving others as they provide shelter and shade. Their roots sink deep, absorbing nutrients and water while at the same time anchoring the tree. And the trunk unites the two, carrying the water and nutrients between the roots and crown, giving support over years of growth. The oak is an astounding picture of the individual we want to see our students become, leaders planted deep in Truth, continually growing, and spreading far and wide in serving others. Isaiah 61:3 tells us that “they will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor.”

Do you have a suggestion for a Hispanic Heritage presentation?
| |
Is there someone that you would like to highlight and add to the growing Hispanic Heritage Month presentation? Email Ms. Margarita to add your suggestion to the Hispanic Heritage Month presentation.
As the only bilingual school in SC, with the most diverse student population (according to the former Chief of Police of North Charleston and now mayoral candidate Reggie Burgess), it’s our joy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15).

Lunches by Food For Thought: Grades 1-7
|
| CBA partners with a local company, “Food For Thought,” to provide a completely optional lunch program for the students of grades 1–7. Everything is completely customizable for your child and family on the website from the company providing the lunches.
- Parents, it is very important for each student to have their class updated to reflect the current school year. Otherwise, there is no way to get the lunches to the students.
- Ordered lunches arrive at lunch time. Any snack included from “Food For Thought” will not be available until lunch. If you want your child to have a snack option prior to lunch, please send one from home.
