Black History Month, or African American History Month, started as a week-long celebration in the US in schools and churches in 1926, sponsored by an Association of Black History. The week was chosen because of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on February 12 and Frederick Douglass’s birthday on February 14; Black communities had celebrated these dates together since the late 19th century.

Black History Month: In the Classroom

‌ Black History Month: In the Classroom

Parents, aunts, and grandmothers in our CBA community have been visiting classrooms to read age-appropriate books. Our kindergarteners are also learning about the African American heroes that our community selected to highlight this month.

Thank you to all who contributed your heroes!

CBA Open Enrollment

‌ February 13: CBA Open Enrollment

OPEN ENROLLMENT: If you know of anyone who is interested in CBA, please let them know that they can submit a new FACTS Inquiry form and they will be invited to join a school tour this spring, since classes are filling up fast. CBA highly values your opinion, and we are so thankful to the CBA families who have already recommended the school to new families who are applying!!

Please note these have been a few changes in our youngest class offerings for the 23-24 school year. CBA will not offer a 20-24mo class for the school year but will instead offer two 2yo classes and possibly an older 2s/younger 3s class! Placement is based on the student's age on September 1.

More of What's Happening

AT CHARLESTON BILINGUAL ACADEMY

Early Childhood Tip of the Week

‌ March 1: The Alpha Course offered by St. Andrews (Park Circle)

Give yourself “adult time” and “feed” yourself spiritually.

As parents of young kids, the adults are always giving and giving. It is important not to deplete yourselves but to fill your own emotional and spiritual buckets so that you can keep on being available in a healthy way for your child. An opportunity to do this is by attending the Alpha Course. Dinner will be provided. You will join other adults in discussing any spiritual questions that you have ever had in a judgement-free atmosphere. Child care will be provided upon request. Please mention your need in the questions/comments section of the sign up.

So that you don’t feel alone, Maestra Margarita will be attending the course. This is also an opportunity to make new friends among fellow parents. Alpha Course attendees tend to form deep friendships as they discuss important life questions together week after week.
