The Anxious Generation: A Call to Action for CBA Parents
 |
|
In an era defined by rapid technological advancement and social change, the mental health of our youth has become a pressing concern. Jonathan Haidt's thought-provoking book, The Anxious Generation, delves into the factors contributing to this crisis, particularly the impact of smartphones and social media on our children's well-being. While these tools connect us in unprecedented ways, they also cultivate anxiety and depression among young people which is now at an ALL TIME HIGH. Constant exposure to curated online content fosters unrealistic comparisons, amplifying feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. As parents, educators, and community members, CBA believes it’s crucial to understand the implications of these findings and take proactive steps to protect our children. We did a deep dive into this topic at our most recent Parent Connect which was filled with great discussion and encouragement for one another. We were all shocked to learn that a leading cause of death in ages 10-14 is suicide and that screens have truly altered childhood. Our parents were urged to commit to keep smart phones away from CBA little ones by standing in agreement with other families in the school.
