Rings of Growth

The new year is well underway! As I look back over the past few weeks, there have been moments of sun as well as moments of stormy winds. Both are part of growth! As we seek to partner with parents to inspire world changers through Christ-centered, intercultural, immersion-based education, we get the opportunity to walk through all those days with joy. Our desire is to see the students become Mighty Oaks. Oak trees grow from a sapling to a mighty oak one ring at a time. Some ‘rings of growth’ that I have observed this past week include grade 3 students creating models of plant and animal cells, comparing and contrasting them as they describe the various parts’ names and purposes in Spanish. Grade 6 and 7 students eagerly learned about ethnobotany from an expert in the field as they study various ecosystems and seek to learn how each of God’s creations was designed to live in a specific place  with a specific purpose. Man’s interactions with them can be helpful or hurtful. How can we be caretakers of God’s beautiful world?

As the only bilingual school in SC, with the most diverse student population (according to the former Chief of Police of North Charleston and now mayoral candidate Reggie Burgess), it’s our joy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15).

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.” To inspire world changers, it takes a partnership – a partnership in multiple facets including seeing your children become men and women of character.

September 18: LOM's Adult Spanish Classes Start Next Week!

There’s just one more week to sign up to learn Spanish in either a group or private online Spanish class with Language on Mission (LOM)! Our group Spanish Bible Study will give intermediate/advanced Spanish speakers great practice discussing Spanish straight from the Bible, while our Private Adult Classes will provide learners of any language level with a personalized plan to help reach their goals. Save the Date! In lieu of Family Movie Night this year, we will be doing a ‘Farewell to Fall Festival’ on November 3 (4-7 pm). This FREE family friendly event will have jump castles, food trucks and a CBA vendor market. Be on the look -out for more information, as well as vendor sign-ups. 

Little Mozart at CBA

Music classes have just started!

Little Mozart Music Program at the Charleston Bilingual Academy is excited to return to group classes for the 2023-2024 school year. Children experience higher motivation levels in group classes than in individual lessons especially for the younger players.

While CBA does not offer early childhood education programs in the afternoon, some of our teachers offer independent nanny services.  Parents are welcome to contact them directly for availability and rates.

Friendship Baptist Church
Pastor Mark Timmons welcomes you to Friendship Baptist Church (FBC) and invites you to worship with them each Sunday at 11 am. Bilingual services are held in English and Spanish on the 1st and 3rd Sunday every month. On all other Sundays, Pastor Mark Timmons leads the English-language service and Pastor Luis Carreon leads a Spanish-language service.  A fun and engaging children's program is held during the service.  Find out more by emailing Pastor Mark directly (mtimmons@friendshiptoday.org), calling FBC (843-225-1434), or going to the FBC website. Holmes Avenue Baptist Church
Pastor Bryan Ayers welcomes you to visit Holmes Avenue Baptist Church (HABC) to worship with them on Sundays at 11 am. Holmes Kids gather during the worship time for age-appropriate worship and teaching from newborn through grade 4.
