Dear parents of 5th grade students,
Your child’s class is going on a field study trip! This is an excellent chance to further your child’s learning outside of the classroom.
In History class, our driving question this year is “How can we receive the foreigner to Charleston and make them feel welcome?”
On Thursday, May 1, the 5th grade class will experience what a refugee would feel and experience using the CARTA transportation system, being a part of a foreign language lesson, and eating a central Asian meal at Centerpoint Church.
ITINERARY
8:45am – Walk to the CARTA bus stop on Rivers Ave and take the Route 10 bus to the H & L Asian Market
10:15am – Depart the H & L Asian Market on the CARTA Route 13 bus to Centerpoint Church at Remount
11:00am – Foreign language lesson at Centerpoint Church
12:00pm – Lunch at Centerpoint Church
12:45pm – Depart Centerpoint Church in chaperone vehicles
1:00-1:15pm – Arrive at CBA
Details:
- Cost: $18 to cover the CARTA bus tickets for adult chaperones, the language lesson, and the central Asian/Afghan lunch
- Transportation: Chaperones’ personal vehicles
- Addresses: H & L Asian Market (5300 Rivers Ave) & Centerpoint Church (1520 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406)
- Students must wear the CBA Field Study uniform – OLIVE green (not mint green) 2025 Fun Run t-shirt & khaki pants/shorts/skirt.
- Students may bring a labeled water bottle with them. *Please do not order from Food for Thought for this day.
- Students should not bring any electronics.
