Project Description

Assistant Teacher 20-24 months – Mrs. Rodríguez is from Mexico. She states: “I have been blessed to be a part of the Hispanic congregation of Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Luis and his wife Maribel. It is thanks to their recommendation that I joined the CBA team last year as Maribel’s assistant and have really enjoyed it. My experience with little ones has been as a mother, nanny, and now with CBA. My son is going to be a CBA student in the new school year. I thank the Lord for this opportunity to be part of a team where we feed on the Word of God and that my son has a better option for his education in a supportive, Christian, and bilingual environment.”

1) Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher’s aide because I wanted to finally pursue something that I’ve always dreamed about: to work with kids in a school setting, and not just as a nanny. I enjoy being able to create, teach, and share with them lessons, activities, and love.

2) What person has had the biggest impact on your life and how so?

The person who has had the biggest impact in my life is Mrs. Carreon. We were able to reunite so many years after she had been my daughter’s Sunday School teacher, and thanks to her and God I am able to do what I love most, and that is to be here at CBA. I appreciate her love and friendship.

3) What is the most fun part of teaching and why?

The most fun part of teaching is being able to see each kid flourish in his or her own way. Going over our vowels is my favorite because I get to listen to their little voices sing and repeat after me!

4) What is your favorite activity with your students?

My favorite activity to do with my students is creating music using our instruments or singing along to songs to praise God.

5) What are you learning in your faith right now?

I am still learning to study my Bible and I try to not miss any Sundays at church. The most difficult thing for me (and that I have learned is gradually to do) is to let go of my fear and nerves and I pray or read the Bible in front of everyone. I am not fully comfortable with public speaking but I’ve been able to do it!!! God has been with me !!

6) How does your faith impact your teaching?

My faith impacts my teaching in many positive ways. I am able to teach my students about love, kindness, honesty, forgiveness and so many other things because they come from God. My students know that God loves them and I am grateful to be able to share this with them.

7) Do you have a daily habit that you can’t live without?

The first thing I do when I wake up is thank God for another day because without him I am nothing. I don’t think I could live without this habit.
